We have a boxer-mastiff mix and boy does she like to chew. For hours and hours. This extra-long tug rope lasts a long time (well, for her - about 2 months) even though it eventually ends up in shreds. But at least in the meantime it's a fun toy to play with your dog, especially if they're down for tug-o-war. I like this because it has several knots in it, which prevents my dog from moving up the rope until her mouth gets to my hand. Because she does that, and eventually gets my knuckles (I call that cheating, but what rules do dogs observe anyway?). The rope is tough and strong, and my shoulder would pop out of the socket before this toy incurred any damage. But when she gnaws on it for hours, she dismantles this thing one thread at a time until it's just a couple of spit-soaked frayed knots in as many pieces. But unlike other toys, there's no rubber bits all over the floor, there's nothing to accidentally swallow, and it won't injure her mouth. The only thing I can say is, don't leave it out in the rain. Once it get saturated it can take a long time to dry and sometimes it will get smelly. As long as you keep it relatively dry (aside from dog slobber) it will be fine.
